Smart Temp SMT-850 Halo
Thermostat Operation, Wi-Fi, Scheduling and Installer Features
1. Controller Features
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Display | 7-inch colour capacitive touchscreen |
| Wi-Fi | Wireless network connection and compatible Smart Temp mobile app |
| Scheduling | Commercial, residential and manual operation modes |
| Zoning | Up to four temperature-controlled zones where configured |
| Communication | Modbus RTU/IP and BACnet MSTP/IP capabilities |
| Wireless accessories | Optional LoRa sensors and relays |
| Control outputs | Relay and configurable 0–10 V analogue outputs |
Available functions depend on the HVAC system, installed accessories and installer configuration.
2. Basic Thermostat Operation
Selecting Operating Mode
Touch the MODE icon to select from the available options:
- OFF: Normal heating and cooling requests are disabled, subject to any configured protection functions.
- HEAT: Heating-only operation.
- COOL: Cooling-only operation.
- AUTO: Automatically selects heating or cooling as required.
Adjusting Temperature
- Locate the heating or cooling setpoint on the home screen.
- Press the appropriate up or down arrow.
- If requested, choose the period for which the new temperature should apply.
- Confirm the change.
Where scheduled operation is enabled, temporary temperature adjustments may expire at the next event or after the nominated override period.
Fan Control
Available fan modes may include AUTO, continuous ON and fan-speed selection. Options depend on the connected HVAC equipment and installer configuration.
3. Commercial Scheduling
The Halo supports commercial scheduling with nominated building operating periods and after-hours control.
- Open the schedule screen.
- Select the day or group of days to be programmed.
- Set the required START time.
- Set the required STOP time.
- Configure available temperature and fan settings.
- Save the schedule.
Commercial mode can also support holiday schedules and an installer-configured after-hours run timer.
4. Connecting to Wi-Fi
- Open the Halo's settings or MORE page.
- Select the Wi-Fi icon.
- Enable Wi-Fi.
- Select SETUP CONNECTION.
- Scan for available networks.
- Select the required Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the network password and connect.
- Open the compatible Smart Temp mobile app.
- Select the option to add a new device.
- Use the pairing QR code shown by the Halo controller.
Internet connectivity, supported Wi-Fi configuration and the correct app are required for remote control.
5. Zone Control
Where enabled, zone control allows occupants to open or close configured zone dampers and, in compatible installations, select which zones provide the temperature measurement used by the thermostat.
When multiple zone temperature sensors are selected, the Halo can use their average temperature for control.
Zone availability and minimum-open-zone rules depend on the installer configuration. Do not close or bypass required airflow paths.
6. Installer Settings
The supplied SMT-850 Quick Start Guide identifies the default installer PIN as 0021.
Installer functions include:
- Equipment and compressor-stage configuration.
- Compressor timing and protection settings.
- Fan-control logic.
- Input/output assignments.
- 0–10 V analogue output functions.
- Modbus and BACnet communication settings.
- Zone settings and wireless accessories.
- Configuration backup and restoration.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Initial Checks |
|---|---|
| Controller not responding | Check power supply, wiring and controller status. |
| No Wi-Fi connection | Check Wi-Fi settings, signal strength, password and network availability. |
| Incorrect temperature | Check sensor selection, calibration, installation position and configured zones. |
| Unit not following schedule | Check time/date, operating mode, schedules, holidays and active overrides. |
| Heating or cooling not running | Inspect the Halo information screen, current demand, mode and connected HVAC equipment. |
8. RTPU Integration Considerations
The SMT-850 provides extensive generic HVAC control capabilities, but its wiring and configuration must be engineered for the equipment being controlled.
The documented UTY-RTPU-ANYWIO rooftop control kit uses an SMT-770. Do not assume that the SMT-850 can be substituted into that kit without verifying the communication interface, available control logic and required programming.
