Reverse Cycle VRF Heat Pump Mode Control
First Command operation and changing between Heat, Cool and Dry modes
Applies to selected AIRSTAGE J-Series and V-Series heat pump VRF systems
Key principle: On these reverse cycle VRF heat pump systems, the operating mode is determined by the first indoor unit turned on. Once any indoor unit is operating, the system mode is locked until all indoor units are turned off.
1. How the system works
- Each indoor unit can determine the system operating mode, but only when the entire VRF system is off.
- The first indoor unit switched on establishes the operating mode for the complete system.
- While any indoor unit remains on, the operating mode is locked and cannot be changed.
- To change between Heat, Cool or Dry, all indoor units must first be switched off.
Example
If the first indoor unit is turned on in Heating, the system is placed into Heating mode. Other indoor units can then operate in Heating or remain off, but they cannot operate in Cooling or Dry until every indoor unit has been turned off and a new mode is selected.
2. Changing the operation mode
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Turn off all indoor units. |
| 2 | On the controller, press Mode and select the required mode: Cool, Dry or Heat. |
| 3 | Adjust any other required settings such as temperature or fan speed. |
| 4 | Turn the air conditioner back on. |
| 5 | Once operating, settings other than Mode can continue to be adjusted. |
Important: If the required mode will not change, check that every indoor unit connected to the VRF system is switched off. A single indoor unit left operating will keep the existing system mode locked.
3. Mode combinations and important notes
| First indoor unit mode | Other indoor units can operate as |
|---|---|
| Heat | Heat or Off |
| Cool | Cool, Dry or Off |
| Dry | Cool, Dry or Off |
- The system operating mode must remain consistent across the VRF system.
- Individual indoor units can still have their own temperature, fan speed and other settings.
- Always ensure all indoor units are off before attempting to change the system mode.
- For instructions specific to the installed controller, refer to the relevant controller Operation Manual.
