Zoneconnex - Quick Start Guide

Installation, commissioning, zone setup, Droplets and troubleshooting
For Zoneconnex zone control systems using the TouchPoint LCD and anywAiR Zone app
Zoneconnex is a Wi-Fi zone control solution that connects directly to the compatible indoor unit PCB through the UART port. It can control up to 10 x 24VAC RJ12 zone motors and supports optional wireless DROPLET temperature and humidity sensors.
Important: Commissioning can be completed without the home's Wi-Fi network operating. The Zoneconnex TouchPoint LCD can emit its own Wi-Fi access point for installer setup.

3. Before you start

To configure a Zoneconnex zone controller, confirm the following:

  • The Zoneconnex controller is installed and connected to a compatible air conditioner.
  • The air conditioner and Zoneconnex controller can both be powered.
  • The anywAiR Zone app is installed on a compatible Apple or Android smartphone or tablet.
Home Wi-Fi is not required for initial commissioning. The system can be commissioned first and connected to the home Wi-Fi network later.

4. Electrical and communication connections

Connect to the indoor unit CN65 or CN75 terminal, depending on the indoor unit model. Do not terminate the red UART cable.

These connections are prewired from the factory. The terminals are push-button terminal blocks; use a small flat-blade screwdriver to release and install the cable.

RS485 connection

Do not use for standard residential applications. The RS485 port is intended for commercial applications and is unlikely to be required in residential installations at this stage.

5. Connect Zoneconnex to Wi-Fi

  1. On the TouchPoint LCD, press the WiFi tab.
  2. Press Scan WiFi.
  3. Select the required network and press Connect.
  4. Enter the network password using the on-screen keyboard.
  5. Press Connect.

Once connected, the TouchPoint LCD displays network information including:

  • QR code
  • Signal strength
  • Connection speed
  • Security type
  • Channel

6. Enter Installer Mode

At the TouchPoint LCD

  1. Press the System Info tab.
  2. Tap anywhere in the system area of the screen 8 times.
  3. Enter the dealer password: 898989.
  4. Confirm to enter Installer Mode.
Dealer password: 898989. The training guide identifies this as the factory password across all Zoneconnex systems.

Connect the phone to Installer Mode

  1. Once the TouchPoint LCD Installer Mode page is displayed, the LCD emits a Wi-Fi signal.
  2. Open the anywAiR Zone app.
  3. Select Continue as Installer.
  4. Confirm the caution prompt by selecting Continue.
  5. Scan the Connect WiFi QR code displayed on the TouchPoint LCD. The smartphone connects to the LCD Wi-Fi.
  6. Scan the API Access QR code to access the installer backend.
  7. Begin system configuration on the smartphone.

7. Initial zone setup

When Installer Mode is opened for the first time, enter:

  • Number of zones: 1 to 10
  • Number of relief zones: 0 to 3
Although 0 relief zones can be selected, the training guide recommends explaining the benefit of a relief zone to the homeowner/end user as a safety option in case all zones are accidentally turned off.

Zone configuration options

For each zone, the installer can:

  • Name the zone.
  • Set it as a Primary Zone where a DROPLET is present.
  • Set it as a Relief Zone.
  • Adjust minimum airflow.
  • Adjust maximum airflow.
  • Adjust the zone open-to-close time.
  • Assign a DROPLET sensor, if fitted.
Automatic damper assignment: Zone 1 is assigned to Damper 1, Zone 2 to Damper 2, and so on up to the number of zones selected.

Multiple dampers can be connected to the same zone. The training guide notes this can be useful in larger homes where rooms may be at opposite ends of the house.

Summary Zone page

Once the zones have been configured, the Summary Zone page allows the installer to:

  • Review commissioned zones.
  • Select a zone to edit its settings.
  • Add a missed zone using + Add.
  • Add and assign DROPLET sensors.

8. DROPLET sensors

DROPLET sensors are optional and are not supplied as standard with the Zoneconnex system.

  • Add a DROPLET by scanning its QR code or entering/scanning its UUID (8-character alphanumeric code).
  • A DROPLET can remain unassigned and operate as a standalone temperature sensor.
  • A DROPLET can be assigned to a zone.
  • DROPLETs measure temperature and humidity.
  • DROPLETs are not used for VAV control; they are temperature/humidity sensing points.
  • A DROPLET can be set as the Primary sensing point instead of the return-air sensor.
  • No indoor-unit Function Setting changes are required when using a DROPLET as the Primary sensing point.

9. Installer preferences

The Preferences page provides the following settings:

Factory ResetFull reset. All device settings are cleared back to factory condition.

10. Firmware updates

If an update is available while in Installer Mode, the installer may be prompted to update the ACBM and TouchPoint LCD.

During a firmware update: Do not disconnect power, turn the unit off, move away from the TouchPoint LCD with the smartphone, or allow the smartphone to disconnect from the TouchPoint LCD.

Follow the on-screen prompts and wait for the completion notification.

11. Finish installation

  1. Complete zone configuration, DROPLET setup and preferences.
  2. Return to the Installer Mode home page.
  3. Select Finish Installation.
  4. When prompted, select Accept.

The settings are then saved to the ACBM module and TouchPoint LCD. The TouchPoint LCD returns to the normal home page and the smartphone app exits Installer Mode and returns to the login page.

12. Temperature sensing configuration

Default setting: When installing the anywAiR Zoneconnex TouchPoint LCD only, the air conditioner's factory temperature sensing must remain set to the return-air sensor.
  • If the supplied UTY-RNRY* wall controller is also installed, it may be configured through the function settings menu as the sensing point.
  • The UTY-RNRY* controller operates alongside the Zoneconnex TouchPoint LCD.
  • Changes made on either controller are mirrored on the other controller, except for zone control on the UTY controller.
  • If a DROPLET is present and configured as Primary, the ACBM logic overrides the UTY-RNRY* as the sensing point.

13. Errors and faults

  • The TouchPoint LCD displays air-conditioner error codes in GENERAL's native 2-digit and 3-digit format.
  • If the system is disconnected from the cloud, a power cycle of the Zoneconnex and local Wi-Fi router may restore connection.
  • A communication issue between the ACBM and indoor unit will generate an error.
  • Where an ACBM-to-indoor-unit communication fault is present, control from the TouchPoint LCD home page and smartphone app is not permitted.

14. Commissioning checklist
