X-Gate Multigateway Firmware Update
Web interface and USB update procedure
Use only approved firmware supplied for the applicable project or product version
This procedure explains how to update firmware on the X-Gate Multigateway. Firmware files may vary by project, product version or service instruction, so always confirm the correct file before proceeding.
Important: Installing the wrong firmware may affect gateway operation. Confirm the required firmware version before starting and do not interrupt power during the update.
1. Before you begin
- Confirm the correct firmware file has been supplied.
- Confirm the Multigateway is powered and operational.
- Confirm the PC can access the Multigateway web interface.
- Confirm the user has the required access level to perform firmware updates.
- Take a backup of the current configuration where required.
Preferred method: Use the web interface where possible. Use the USB method if browser access is unavailable or Technical Support specifically instructs you to do so.
2. Option 1 - Update using the web interface

| 9 | Wait for the update to complete and allow the Multigateway to restart. |
| 10 | Log back in and confirm the firmware version. |
3. Option 2 - Update using USB
USB requirements: Use a USB memory stick formatted as FAT or FAT32. The firmware file must be in the root directory and renamed exactly to mgtw.bin.

| 8 | Remove the USB stick after the update has completed. |
| 9 | Reconnect to the web interface and confirm the firmware version. |
4. Confirm firmware version after update
- Log in to the Multigateway web interface.
- Open Settings or the device information page.
- Confirm the displayed firmware version matches the intended version.
- Check gateway communication and normal system operation.
5. Firmware attachment naming
When attaching firmware to this Freshdesk solution, use clear version-specific names such as:
X-Gate_Multigateway_Firmware_v3.xx.bin
or:
mgtw_v3.xx_projectname.bin
For USB updates, rename the selected approved firmware file to mgtw.bin before copying it to the USB stick.
6. Technician notes
- Do not interrupt power during the firmware update.
- Do not remove the USB stick until the update has completed.
- Confirm the correct firmware version before updating.
- If required, restore the previous configuration from backup after the update.
- If the gateway becomes inaccessible after the update, use the USB method to obtain the current network configuration.
7. Troubleshooting
Firmware update does not start from USB
- Confirm the USB stick is formatted as FAT or FAT32.
- Confirm the firmware file is in the root directory.
- Confirm the file is named exactly mgtw.bin.
- Confirm the gateway was power cycled after the USB stick was inserted.
Cannot access the web interface after update
- Confirm the PC is on the same IP range as the gateway.
- Confirm the Ethernet cable is connected correctly.
- Check whether the gateway IP address has changed.
- Use node_info.txt on a USB stick to read the current network configuration where required.
Incorrect firmware installed
Contact Technical Support before making further changes. A firmware rollback may require a specific recovery file or procedure.
