About the Fresh Air Option
What is the Fresh Air option?
Some versions of the anywAiR Ducted Controller may display a Fresh Air option within the system setup menus. The option is disabled by default.
Fresh-air systems are designed to bring a controlled amount of outdoor air into a building. This is different from normal air-conditioning operation, which primarily recirculates and conditions the air already inside the home or building.
Can I turn it on?
We do not recommend enabling this setting in a standard residential installation.
The option should only be used where a qualified HVAC design professional has confirmed that the system includes the correct fresh-air equipment and has completed the required airflow calculations, installation and commissioning.
Fujitsu General customer service and technical support teams cannot provide instructions for designing, selecting, installing or commissioning third-party fresh-air components.
Why professional design is required
A fresh-air system changes the airflow and pressure conditions within the ducted system and the building. If it is not designed and balanced correctly, it may result in:
- Unbalanced airflow or pressure within the home.
- Air leakage from ductwork.
- Reduced heating or cooling performance.
- Higher energy use.
- Condensation or humidity problems.
- Poor indoor-air-quality outcomes if the intake or filtration system is unsuitable.
- Additional load on the indoor fan and duct system.
What additional equipment may be required?
A purpose-designed fresh-air system may include third-party components such as:
- Outdoor-air intake cowls or grilles to bring air into the building.
- Motorised dampers to control or isolate the outdoor-air supply.
- Additional ductwork and return-air arrangements to distribute and balance the airflow.
- Suitable filtration for the outdoor-air intake.
- Control and interlock equipment selected for the complete system design.
These components are not supplied or selected simply by enabling the controller setting. Their suitability, installation and operation remain the responsibility of the system designer and installer.
Does leaving it disabled affect my air conditioner?
No. Leaving the Fresh Air option disabled does not affect the normal operation of your air conditioner.
Your system can continue to provide its standard heating, cooling, fan and zoning functions as designed. The Fresh Air setting is separate from these core comfort functions.
What should I do if I want outdoor-air ventilation?
Speak with a licensed HVAC contractor or mechanical-services designer. They can assess the building, occupancy, climate, duct system and ventilation requirements, and recommend a compliant solution.
Availability on newer controllers
The Fresh Air option may not appear on newer anywAiR controllers. This does not reduce the controller's standard air-conditioning or zoning capability.
