Setting Up AnywAiR Next Using a Mobile Hotspot
Use this guide when a standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is unavailable and you need to connect an AnywAiR Next Wi-Fi adapter through a mobile hotspot.
Important: Two separate phones or tablets are required during setup. One device creates the hotspot, while the second device runs the myanywAiR Next app and configures the adapter.
1. Prerequisites
Before beginning setup, make sure you have:
- Device A - a phone or tablet that will create the mobile hotspot.
- Device B - a separate phone or tablet that will run the myanywAiR Next app and complete the setup.
- A hotspot operating on the 2.4 GHz frequency band. The AnywAiR Next adapter is not compatible with 5 GHz networks.
- The myanywAiR Next app installed on Device B:
Download from the Apple App Store
For Android, search for myanywAiR Next in the Google Play Store.
2. Enable and Configure the Mobile Hotspot
For iPhone
- Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot.
- Turn on Allow Others to Join.
- Turn on Maximize Compatibility. This forces the hotspot to use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Note the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
For Android
Menu names vary by manufacturer, but the general process is:
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & Tethering > Wi-Fi Hotspot.
- Confirm the network name (SSID) and password.
- Set the hotspot frequency band to 2.4 GHz.
3. Ensuring a 2.4 GHz Connection on Android
When an Android device defaults to 5 GHz, use one of the following methods:
Option 1 - Temporarily disable 5 GHz on the router
- Log in to the router or modem settings.
- Disable the 5 GHz band.
- Connect the Android device to the 2.4 GHz network.
- Complete setup, then re-enable 5 GHz.
Option 2 - Create a separate 2.4 GHz network name
- Open the router's Wi-Fi configuration page.
- Create a separate network name, such as MyWiFi_2.4GHz.
- Connect to that network and continue setup.
Option 3 - Force 2.4 GHz on Android, where supported
- Open Wi-Fi Settings > Current Network > Advanced Options.
- Look for Frequency Band or Network Type.
- Select 2.4 GHz only.
Option 4 - Check the active band with a Wi-Fi analyser app
- Install a Wi-Fi analyser from the Google Play Store.
- Check which frequency band is active.
- If the device is connected to 5 GHz, change to a 2.4 GHz network.
4. Pair the AnywAiR Next Adapter
- Power on the air-conditioning system and connect the AnywAiR Next Wi-Fi adapter.
- On Device B, connect to the hotspot created by Device A.
- Open the myanywAiR Next app.
- Select Add Device > Wi-Fi Adapter (Dongle).
- Follow the prompts to confirm the 2.4 GHz hotspot name and password.
- Place the adapter into pairing mode. The indicator light should flash rapidly.
- Allow the app to detect and connect the adapter to the hotspot.
- Wait for the successful setup notification.
5. Control the Air Conditioner Through the Hotspot
- After pairing is complete, Device A can be used to control the air conditioner through the app.
- The hotspot must remain active whenever remote access or control is required.
6. Troubleshooting
| Issue | Likely cause | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| Adapter not detected | Hotspot is using 5 GHz | Force the hotspot to 2.4 GHz or enable Maximize Compatibility on iPhone. |
| Connection drops | The hotspot has timed out | Disable the phone's power-saving mode and keep the hotspot active. |
| Setup will not start | The same device is being used for both the hotspot and setup | Use two separate phones or tablets. |
| Adapter is unresponsive | The adapter is not in pairing mode | Hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes. |
Setup reminder: Keep both devices close to the air conditioner and ensure Device B remains connected to Device A's hotspot throughout the pairing process.
