UTB-TUD as a Replacement for UTB-TUB
Required DIP-switch setting and function comparison
Replacement guidance for discontinued UTB-TUB wired remote controllers
The UTB-TUD wired remote controller can be used as a substitute for the discontinued UTB-TUB. Before installation, compatibility mode must be enabled on the UTB-TUD by changing DIP switch 1-1 from OFF to ON.
Isolate power before opening the controller or changing DIP switches. The compatibility setting must be completed before wiring and energising the replacement controller.
1. Applies to
| Controller status | Controller | Model reference |
|---|---|---|
| Discontinued controller | UTB-TUB | AR-3TA3 / AR-3TA12 |
| Approved replacement | UTB-TUD | AR-6TC2 |
2. Required compatibility setting
Set DIP switch 1-1 on the UTB-TUD main PCB from OFF to ON. This enables compatibility with systems originally configured for a UTB-TUB controller.
| Switch bank | Switch | Required position | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| SW1 | 1-1 | ON | UTB-TUB compatibility mode |
DIP switch location inside the UTB-TUD controller. The relevant switch bank is highlighted in the reference images.
3. DIP-switch function comparison
| Switch | UTB-TUD function | UTB-TUB function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Compatibility | Master/slave combination |
| 2 | Master/slave combination | Master/slave combination |
| 3 | Filter reset displayed | Multiple indoor units |
| 4 | Do not adjust | Heat pump / cooling-only selection |
| 5 | Do not adjust | Auto changeover |
| 6 | Memory backup | Memory backup |
Important: Switches 4 and 5 on the UTB-TUD are not field-adjustable replacement equivalents for the UTB-TUB functions. Leave these switches in their documented factory positions.
4. Installation procedure
| 1 | Isolate power to the indoor unit and controller circuit. |
| 2 | Open the UTB-TUD housing and locate DIP switch bank SW1 near the PCB edge. |
| 3 | Move DIP switch 1-1 from OFF to ON. |
| 4 | Transfer the controller wiring in accordance with the applicable indoor-unit wiring diagram and controller installation instructions. |
| 5 | Restore power and confirm normal display, communication and indoor-unit operation. |
| 6 | Where two controllers are installed, confirm the master/slave setting is correct and that only one controller is configured as master. |
5. Verification checklist
☐ DIP switch 1-1 is set to ON.
☐ Switches 4 and 5 have not been altered.
☐ Controller powers up without a communication error.
☐ Operating mode, set temperature and fan controls respond correctly.
☐ Master/slave operation has been checked where applicable.
