Airstage applied product range - understanding model codes

How to read AIRSTAGE applied product nomenclature
Reference covering applied chillers, fan coils, rooftop units, close control units and AHUs.
AIRSTAGE applied product model numbers are built from a series of code groups. Each group identifies the unit type, refrigerant or compressor technology, configuration or version, and unit size. The exact structure varies by product family.

1. General model-code structure

Code groupWhat it identifies
Unit typeThe basic construction or product family.
Refrigerant / technologyRefrigerant type and, where applicable, inverter or Turbocor compressor configuration.
VersionEfficiency class, heat-pump arrangement, fan type, acoustic package, hydraulic configuration or other options.
SizeCapacity and, for some product families, the number of compressors, water-coil rows, heat-exchanger type or refrigeration circuits.
Example: AAC/IK/A/WP/SSL218P
This example is broken into the unit type, compressor/refrigerant code, family or efficiency code, unit configuration and size.

Important: Multiple configurations can be present on the same unit. Where multiple version codes are used, follow the nominated code order.

Size code

  • The last digit identifies the number of compressors installed: 1 = one compressor, 2 = two compressors, and so on up to 12.
  • The first digits indicate the cooling capacity, expressed as an indicative compressor horsepower value.
  • P = plate heat exchanger.
  • Empty suffix = shell and tube heat exchanger. Units below 50 kW use a plate heat exchanger.
  • -T = dry expansion shell and tube heat exchanger.
  • -1 = one refrigerant circuit.
  • -2 = two refrigerant circuits.
Worked example - AAC/IK/A/WP/SSL218P
  • AAC - aircooled unit with axial fans
  • /IK - inverter compressor and R410A refrigerant
  • /A - A class efficiency
  • /WP - reversible heat pump
  • /SSL - super silenced version
  • 218 - 18 HP compressor power and two compressors
  • P - plate heat exchanger

3. Fan coil model codes

Fan coil version

CodeConfiguration
EmptyStandard unit
/VPBottom inlet and vertical delivery
/VHFront inlet and vertical delivery
/VERear inlet and horizontal delivery
/VOBottom inlet and horizontal delivery
/IVBottom inlet and vertical delivery
/IFFront inlet and vertical delivery
/IORear inlet and horizontal delivery
/IIBottom inlet and horizontal delivery

Fan coil size: The first digit indicates the number of water-coil rows installed. The remaining digits identify the unit size. For example, 302 indicates 3 rows and size 02.

4. Rooftop model codes

Example: RAT/IK/EC/WP/ECO218
  • RAT - rooftop unit.
  • RAQ - rooftop unit, single skin.
  • /K - R410A refrigerant.
  • /I_ - inverter compressor, positioned before the refrigerant code.
  • /EC - unit with EC plug fans.
  • /WP - reversible heat pump version.
  • /ECO - economizer.
  • The last digit of the size identifies the number of compressors; the preceding digits indicate the indicative installed compressor horsepower.
Worked example: RAT/IK/EC/WP/ECO218 = rooftop unit, inverter compressor, R410A refrigerant, EC plug fans, reversible heat pump, economizer, 18 HP and two compressors.

5. Close control model codes

6. AHU model codes

The AIRSTAGE naming proposal for air handling units changes the unit-type code while retaining the existing GI product size.

DescriptionGI typeAIRSTAGE type
Air Handling UnitCTAACTA
Example: GI model CTA 60 becomes AIRSTAGE model ACTA 60. The size remains the same.

7. Quick decoding guide

  1. Start with the unit-type code to identify the product family.
  2. Read the next code for the refrigerant and compressor technology, where applicable.
  3. Identify any family, efficiency or equipment-option codes.
  4. Read the version codes in order. Some products can contain multiple version codes.
  5. Finish with the size code, using the rules that apply to that product family.
Reference note: Model-code structures differ between applied chillers, fan coils, rooftop units, close control units and AHUs. Do not apply the size or version rules from one product family to another.
