ASTG34LFCB / AOTG34LFTB - Operation Guide

This article summarises the operating instructions for the ASTG34LFCB wall-mounted indoor unit and its matched AOTG34LFTB outdoor unit. The source operating manual covers the ASTG18LF, ASTG24LF, ASTG30LF and ASTG34LF range.

Basic Operation

1. Press START/STOP.
2. Press MODEto select:
   • AUTO
   • COOL
   • DRY
   • HEAT
   • FAN
3. Use SET TEMP to select the required temperature.

AUTO Changeover

AUTO mode selects the operating mode according to the difference between room temperature and the set temperature.

• More than approximately +2°C: COOL or DRY
• Within approximately ±2°C: mode is determined by outdoor temperature
• More than approximately -2°C: HEAT

Fan Speed and SUPER QUIET

Press FAN to select:

• AUTO
• HIGH
• MED
• LOW
• QUIET

QUIET activates SUPER QUIET operation, reducing airflow for quieter operation.

• SUPER QUIET cannot be used in DRY mode.
• Cooling and heating performance is reduced while SUPER QUIET is active.

Vertical and Horizontal Airflow

This model provides remote control of both vertical and horizontal airflow direction.

Vertical Airflow

• Press SET (Vertical).
• There are 6 vertical positions.
• COOL / DRY automatically starts with horizontal airflow.
• HEAT automatically uses downward airflow.
• During COOL / DRY, prolonged use of positions 4-6 can cause condensation.
• If positions 4-6 are used for more than approximately 20 minutes during COOL / DRY, the unit automatically returns to position 3.

Horizontal Airflow

• Press SET (Horizontal).
• There are 5 horizontal positions.

SWING Operation

Press SWING to cycle through:

• Up / down swing
• Left / right swing
• Up / down + left / right swing
• Stop swing

During heating, the swing range is biased downward. During cooling and dry operation, the swing range is biased toward horizontal airflow.

ECONOMY Operation

Press ECONOMY to reduce energy consumption.

• Maximum output is approximately 70% of normal operation on single-type systems.
• During cooling, room temperature is controlled slightly above the selected setting.
• During heating, room temperature is controlled slightly below the selected setting.

10°C Heat Operation

The 10°C Heat function helps prevent an unoccupied room from becoming excessively cold.

1. Press 10°C HEAT.
2. The OPERATION lamp turns off and the ECONOMY lamp illuminates.
3. The system maintains the room at approximately 10°C.
4. Press START/STOP to cancel.

While 10°C Heat is active, only vertical and horizontal airflow adjustment are available from the remote.

Manual Operation Without the Remote

If the remote controller is unavailable, use the indoor-unit MANUAL AUTO button.

• Press for more than 3 seconds and less than 10 seconds to start AUTO operation.
• Fan speed is set to AUTO.
• Standard temperature setting is 24°C.
• Press again to stop.
• Holding the button for more than 10 seconds starts forced cooling for service use.

Timer Functions

ON / OFF Timer

1. Press TIMER MODE to select ON or OFF timer.
2. Use TIMER SET to select the required time.

Program Timer

Combines one ON and one OFF timer event within a 24-hour period.

• OFF → ON
• ON → OFF

Sleep Timer

The Sleep Timer gradually adjusts the temperature to reduce excessive heating or cooling while sleeping.

• Cooling / Dry: set temperature rises by 1°C each hour, up to 2°C.
• Heating: set temperature reduces by 1°C every 30 minutes, up to 4°C.
• The unit switches off when the set timer duration expires.

Optional Wired Remote Controller

An optional wired remote controller may be used.

Additional wired-controller functions:

• Weekly Timer
• Temperature Set Back Timer

Wireless functions restricted when a wired controller is connected:

• 10°C Heat
• ON / OFF / Program Timer
• Sleep Timer

Remote Controller Signal Code

Where multiple air conditioners are installed in one room, the remote controller signal code can be changed so each remote operates the intended unit.

1. Press START/STOP until only the clock is shown.
2. Hold MODE for at least 5 seconds.
3. Use the temperature buttons to select the required code.
4. Press MODE again to return to the clock display.

The system is shipped with signal code A. Replacing the remote batteries resets the remote to code A.

Filter Cleaning

Clean the air filters approximately every 2 weeks.

1. Open the intake grille.
2. Remove the filters.
3. Vacuum or wash using mild detergent and warm water.
4. Dry thoroughly in a shaded location.
5. Refit the filters and close the intake grille securely.

Air Cleaning Filters

Automatic Defrost

During heating in low outdoor temperatures, frost may build on the outdoor unit.

• The system automatically enters defrost operation when required.
• Heating temporarily stops during defrost.
• The indoor OPERATION indicator flashes.
• Defrost can last up to approximately 15 minutes.
• Steam or water from the outdoor unit during defrost is normal.

Auto Restart

After a power interruption, the air conditioner automatically restarts in its previous operating mode when power is restored.

If power is interrupted during timer operation, the timer can reset and the TIMER indicator may flash.

Normal Operating Characteristics

The following conditions can be normal:

• Approximately 3-minute compressor delay after restart.
• Refrigerant-flow noise for 2-3 minutes after startup.
• Slight squeaking caused by expansion and contraction of the front panel.
• Mist during COOL or DRY.
• Steam or water from the outdoor unit during defrost.
• Very low airflow during heating warm-up, DRY, AUTO Monitor or SUPER QUIET.

Troubleshooting

Unit Does Not Operate

• Check the circuit breaker.
• Check for a power failure.
• Check whether a fuse or breaker has operated.
• Check whether a timer is active.

Poor Cooling or Heating

• Clean dirty air filters.
• Check that the intake grille and outlet are not blocked.
• Confirm the thermostat setting is appropriate.
• Close open windows and doors.
• Reduce strong sunlight during cooling.
• Check for excessive internal heat loads.
• Check whether SUPER QUIET mode is active.

Remote Controller Operates Incorrectly

• Check whether the batteries are flat.
• Confirm the batteries are fitted correctly.
• Check the remote signal code if multiple systems are installed nearby.
