Quick Start

  1. Turn on the circuit breaker.
  2. Press START/STOP.
  3. Press MODE to select AUTO, COOL, DRY, HEAT or FAN.
  4. Use SET TEMP. to select the required temperature.
  5. Use FAN to select AUTO, HIGH, MED, LOW or QUIET.

Heating temperature range16-30°C
Cooling / Dry temperature range18-30°C
Wireless remote rangeApproximately 7 m

Operating Modes

ModeOperation
AUTOAutomatically selects heating, cooling, dry or monitor operation according to room temperature and the set temperature.
COOLCools the room.
DRYGently cools while dehumidifying. Fan speed is controlled automatically and may stop intermittently.
HEATHeats the room. Fan speed may remain very low for approximately 3-5 minutes after start-up while the indoor unit warms.
FANCirculates room air without heating or cooling.

Auto Changeover

When AUTO is first selected, the indoor unit operates at very low fan speed for approximately 2 minutes while it determines the appropriate operating mode.

  • More than approximately +2°C above the set temperature: Cooling or Dry.
  • Within approximately ±2°C of the set temperature: Monitor operation.
  • More than approximately -2°C below the set temperature: Heating.

Fan Speed and Super Quiet

Fan speed selections are AUTO, HIGH, MED, LOW and QUIET.

  • During heating, AUTO fan speed is reduced while discharge air is still cool.
  • During cooling, fan speed reduces as room temperature approaches the set temperature.
  • During monitor operation and at the start of heating, the fan may operate at very low speed.
  • SUPER QUIET reduces airflow and may reduce heating or cooling performance.
  • SUPER QUIET cannot be used during DRY mode.

10°C Heat Operation

Press 10°C HEAT to maintain the room at approximately 10°C and help prevent the space from becoming excessively cold.

  • The heating function will not operate if room temperature is already high enough.
  • During 10°C Heat operation, only airflow direction adjustment is available from the wireless remote.
  • Press START/STOP to cancel 10°C Heat.

Economy Operation

Press ECONOMY to reduce energy use.

  • At maximum output, Economy operation is approximately 70% of normal operation for cooling and heating.
  • During cooling, the controlled room temperature is slightly higher than the set temperature.
  • During heating, the controlled room temperature is slightly lower than the set temperature.
  • Economy does not activate during monitor operation in AUTO mode.

Timer Functions

  • ON Timer
  • OFF Timer
  • Program Timer
  • SLEEP Timer

ON / OFF Timer

  1. Press TIMER MODE to select ON or OFF.
  2. Use TIMER SET to select the required time.
  3. The orange TIMER indicator on the indoor unit will illuminate.

Program Timer

The Program Timer combines one ON timer and one OFF timer into a single sequence within a 24-hour period.

Sleep Timer

The SLEEP timer automatically adjusts the thermostat setting to reduce excessive heating or cooling while sleeping, then stops the air conditioner when the selected time expires.

  • Cooling / Dry: Set temperature rises by 1°C each hour to a maximum increase of 2°C.
  • Heating: Set temperature drops by 1°C every 30 minutes to a maximum reduction of 4°C.

Airflow Direction

Vertical airflow direction is adjusted using the remote controller SET button. Horizontal airflow direction is adjusted manually using the right-left louvers.

Cooling / DryPositions 1, 2 or 3
HeatingPositions 4, 5 or 6
Cooling / Dry: Do not leave the vertical louvers in heating positions 4-6 for extended periods. If left there for more than approximately 30 minutes, the unit automatically returns them to position 3 to reduce condensation risk.

Swing Operation

  • Press SWING to start or stop vertical swing.
  • During Cooling / Dry, swing operates between positions 1 and 3.
  • During Heating, swing operates between positions 3 and 6.
  • Swing may stop temporarily when the fan is stopped or operating at very low speed.

Manual Auto Operation

Use MANUAL AUTO if the wireless remote controller is lost or unavailable.

  • Press and hold MANUAL AUTO for approximately 3 seconds to start operation.
  • The unit operates in AUTO mode.
  • Fan speed is set to AUTO.
  • Temperature setting is approximately 24°C.
  • Press MANUAL AUTO again for approximately 3 seconds to stop.
  • Holding the button for more than 10 seconds starts Forced Cooling for authorised service use.

Automatic Defrosting

During heating in low outdoor temperatures and high humidity, frost may form on the outdoor unit. The system automatically enters a defrost cycle to restore performance.

  • Defrost typically lasts approximately 7-15 minutes.
  • Heating operation temporarily stops during defrost.
  • The OPERATION indicator flashes.
  • The DEFROST indicator illuminates.
  • Steam or water from the outdoor unit during defrost is normal.

Optional Wired Remote Controller

An optional wired remote controller can be used together with the wireless remote controller.

Additional wired-controller functions include:

  • Weekly timer
  • Temperature setback timer

Wireless functions restricted when a wired controller is used:

  • SLEEP Timer
  • Timer functions
  • 10°C Heat

Cleaning and Care

Before cleaning: Stop the unit and turn off the electrical breaker.
  • Clean the standard air filters approximately every 2 weeks.
  • Remove dust using a vacuum cleaner or wash with warm water and neutral detergent.
  • Allow filters to dry fully in a shaded area before reinstalling.
  • Do not use water hotter than 40°C, abrasive cleaners, benzene or thinner.
  • If the unit will be unused for 1 month or more, operate FAN mode for approximately half a day before shutdown to dry internal parts.

Air Cleaning Filter

Replacement filterUTR-FA16-3
Recommended replacementApproximately every 3 years
Cleaning intervalApproximately every 6 months

Normal Operating Characteristics

The following can occur during normal operation and do not necessarily indicate a fault:

  • Approximately 3-minute compressor delay after stopping and restarting or after power is restored.
  • Refrigerant-flow noises during operation or shortly after stopping.
  • Slight squeaking from expansion and contraction of the front panel.
  • A sizzling sound during automatic defrost.
  • Odours previously absorbed from the room may be emitted.
  • Mist during Cooling or Dry operation.
  • Steam from the outdoor unit during defrost.
  • Very low airflow at the start of heating or during temperature monitoring.
  • Indoor fan operation may become very low when room temperature exceeds the heating set point.
  • Indoor operation may stop for approximately 7-15 minutes during automatic defrost.

Troubleshooting

Unit Does Not Operate

  • Check whether the circuit breaker is ON.
  • Check for a power failure.
  • Check whether a fuse has blown or breaker has tripped.
  • Check whether a timer is controlling operation.

Poor Cooling or Heating Performance

  • Check whether the air filter is dirty.
  • Check whether the intake grille or outlet is blocked.
  • Confirm the room temperature setting is appropriate.
  • Check for open windows or doors.
  • During cooling, check for strong direct sunlight.
  • Check for high internal heat loads or excessive room occupancy.
  • Check whether QUIET operation is selected.

Remote Controller Does Not Operate Correctly

  • Check whether the remote-controller batteries are flat.
  • Confirm the batteries are installed with the correct polarity.
Stop operation and isolate power immediately if there is a burning smell or other abnormal condition. If the OPERATION and TIMER indicator lamps flash, stop the system and contact authorised service personnel.
