ASTG18JVCA / AOTG18JVCA - Operation Guide
This article summarises the operating instructions for the ASTG18JVCA compact wall-mounted indoor unit and its matched AOTG18JVCA outdoor unit.
- System type: Cooling-only inverter
- Refrigerant: R410A
- Operating modes: AUTO, COOL, DRY and FAN
- Temperature setting range: 18-30°C in AUTO / COOL / DRY
- Fan speeds: AUTO, HIGH, MED, LOW and QUIET
- Remote-control operating range: approximately 7 m
- Timer functions: ON, OFF, Program and Sleep
- ECONOMY maximum output: approximately 70% of normal cooling operation
Basic Operation
- Press START/STOP.
- Press MODEto select:
- AUTO
- COOL
- DRY
- FAN
- Use the SET TEMP buttons to set the desired temperature.
The thermostat can be set from 18-30°C in AUTO, COOL and DRY modes. Temperature cannot be set in FAN mode.
AUTO Operation
AUTO mode automatically selects between COOL, DRY and Monitor operation.
- If room temperature is above the defined temperature, the unit selects COOL or DRY.
- If room temperature is close to or below the defined temperature, the unit enters Monitor operation.
- During Monitor operation, the fan runs at very low speed.
Fan Speed and SUPER QUIET
Press FAN to cycle through:
- AUTO
- HIGH
- MED
- LOW
- QUIET
When QUIET is selected, the SUPER QUIET indicator illuminates and indoor airflow is reduced.
- SUPER QUIET cannot be used during DRY mode.
- Cooling performance is reduced while SUPER QUIET is active.
Airflow Direction
Vertical Airflow
- Press the SET button to adjust vertical airflow.
- The vertical louvre has 6 positions.
- Recommended COOL / DRY positions are 1-3.
- During FAN mode, positions 1-6 may be used.
- If positions 4-6 are used for more than approximately 30 minutes during COOL or DRY, the louvre automatically returns to position 3.
Horizontal Airflow
Horizontal airflow is adjusted manually using the right-left louvres.
SWING Operation
Press SWING to start automatic up/down airflow movement.
- During COOL / DRY, swing operates approximately between positions 1 and 3.
- Press SWING again to stop.
- Swing may stop temporarily when the indoor fan is stopped or running at very low speed.
ECONOMY Operation
Press ECONOMY to reduce energy consumption.
- Maximum ECONOMY output is approximately 70% of normal cooling operation.
- During ECONOMY operation, room temperature may be slightly higher than the selected set temperature.
- If the room does not cool sufficiently, return to normal operation.
Manual Operation Without the Remote
If the remote controller is lost or unavailable, use the indoor-unit MANUAL AUTO button.
| Button Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Press more than 3 seconds and less than 10 seconds | AUTO operation |
| Press for 3 seconds while operating | Stops operation |
| Press more than 10 seconds | Forced cooling - service use only |
Manual AUTO operates with AUTO fan speed and a standard thermostat setting of 24°C.
Timer Functions
ON / OFF Timer
- Press START/STOP if required.
- Press TIMER MODE to select ON or OFF timer.
- Use the TIMER SET buttons to select the desired time.
Program Timer
The Program Timer combines one OFF and one ON timer event within a 24-hour period.
- OFF → ON
- ON → OFF
Sleep Timer
During COOL / DRY operation, the Sleep Timer raises the set temperature gradually to reduce overcooling.
- Temperature increases by approximately 1°C each hour.
- After a total increase of 2°C, that setting is maintained until the timer expires.
- The unit then switches off automatically.
Set the remote-controller clock correctly before using any timer function.
Optional Wired Remote Controller
An optional wired remote controller may be used.
Additional wired-controller functions:
- Weekly Timer
- Temperature Set Back Timer
Restricted wireless functions when a wired controller is used:
- Sleep Timer
- Timer functions
Remote Controller Setup
- Uses 2 x AAA / R03 / LR03 batteries.
- Typical battery life: approximately 1 year.
- Remote operating range: approximately 7 m.
- A beep confirms the signal has been received by the indoor unit.
Operating Temperature and Humidity
- Cooling / Dry indoor temperature: approximately 18-32°C
- Indoor humidity: below approximately 80% RH
Continuous operation at high humidity may cause condensation to form on the unit surface.
Auto Restart
If power is interrupted, the unit will automatically restart in its previous operating mode when power is restored.
If a power interruption occurs during timer operation, the timer may reset and the TIMER indicator may flash.
Filter Cleaning
Clean the air filters approximately every 2 weeks during normal use.
- Open the intake grille.
- Remove the filters.
- Vacuum or wash with neutral detergent and warm water.
- Dry thoroughly in a shaded location.
- Refit the filters and close the intake grille.
If the unit will not be used for one month or longer, first run FAN mode for approximately half a day to dry the internal components.
Air Cleaning Filter
| Filter | Part Number | Maintenance |
|---|---|---|
| Air Cleaning Filter | UTR-FA16-3 | Clean approximately every 6 months and replace approximately every 3 years. |
Normal Operating Characteristics
The following may be normal and do not necessarily indicate a fault:
- Approximately 3-minute compressor delay after restarting or restoring power.
- Refrigerant-flow noise for approximately 2-3 minutes after startup.
- Slight squeaking caused by expansion and contraction of the front panel.
- Mist during COOL or DRY operation.
- Very low or stopped airflow during DRY or AUTO Monitor operation.
- Reduced airflow during SUPER QUIET operation.
Troubleshooting
Unit Does Not Operate
- Check whether the circuit breaker is switched off.
- Check for a power failure.
- Check whether a fuse has blown or breaker has tripped.
- Check whether a timer is active.
Poor Cooling
- Clean dirty air filters.
- Check that the intake grille and outlet are not blocked.
- Confirm the temperature setting is appropriate.
- Close open windows and doors.
- Reduce strong sunlight where possible.
- Check for excessive internal heat loads.
- Check whether SUPER QUIET mode is active.
Remote Controller Operates Incorrectly
- Check whether the batteries are flat.
- Confirm the batteries are fitted with the correct polarity.
- There is a burning smell or other abnormal condition.
- The problem remains after the basic troubleshooting checks.
- The OPERATION and TIMER indicators flash and the ECONOMY indicator flashes rapidly.
