ASTG09JECB / AOTG09JECB - Operation Guide

This article summarises the main operating instructions for the ASTG09JECB compact wall-mounted indoor unit and its corresponding AOTG09JECB outdoor unit.

Refrigerant: This product uses R410A refrigerant. Installation, maintenance and service work must only be carried out by suitably qualified personnel in accordance with applicable regulations and service documentation.

Quick Start

  1. Press START/STOP.
  2. Press MODE to select AUTO, COOL, DRY or FAN.
  3. Use the SET TEMP. buttons to select the required temperature.
  4. Use the FAN button to select AUTO, HIGH, MED, LOW or QUIET.
Operating modesAUTO / COOL / DRY / FAN
Temperature setting range18-30°C in AUTO / COOL / DRY
Fan speedsAUTO / HIGH / MED / LOW / QUIET
Wireless remote rangeApproximately 7 m

Remote Controller Preparation

  • Uses 2 × AAA / R03 / LR03 batteries.
  • Set the current time using the CLOCK ADJUST button and TIMER SET buttons.
  • Point the remote controller toward the indoor-unit receiver when operating the system.
  • A beep confirms that the signal has been received.

AUTO Operation

When AUTO is selected, the unit initially runs the fan at very low speed while it assesses room conditions and selects the appropriate operating mode.

  • If room temperature is above the defined temperature, the unit selects COOL or DRY.
  • If room temperature is close to or below the defined temperature, the unit enters Monitor operation.
  • During Monitor operation, the fan runs at low speed.

Cooling, Dry and Fan Modes

ModeOperation
COOLUsed to cool the room.
DRYProvides gentle cooling while dehumidifying. Fan speed is controlled automatically and may stop intermittently.
FANCirculates room air without cooling.

Super Quiet Operation

Select QUIET fan speed to reduce indoor airflow and operating noise.

  • Cooling performance is reduced during SUPER QUIET operation.
  • SUPER QUIET cannot be used during DRY mode.

Timer Functions

The wireless remote provides:

  • ON Timer
  • OFF Timer
  • Program Timer
  • SLEEP Timer

ON / OFF Timer

  1. Press TIMER MODE until ON or OFF is selected.
  2. Use the TIMER SET buttons to set the required time.
  3. The orange TIMER indicator on the indoor unit will illuminate.

Program Timer

The Program Timer combines one ON timer and one OFF timer into a single sequence within a 24-hour period, for example switching the unit OFF after going to sleep and ON again before waking.

Sleep Timer

The SLEEP timer gradually adjusts the set temperature to avoid excessive cooling while sleeping and switches the air conditioner off when the selected period expires.

During COOL or DRY operation, the thermostat setting rises by 1°C each hour until it has increased by a total of 2°C. The setting is then maintained until the timer expires.

Airflow Direction

Vertical airflow is adjusted using the remote controller SET button. Horizontal airflow is adjusted manually using the right-left louvers.

COOL / DRY vertical positions1, 2 or 3
FAN vertical positions1 to 6
Cooling / Dry: Do not leave the vertical airflow louver in positions 4-6 for extended periods. If left there for more than approximately 30 minutes, the unit automatically returns it to position 3 to reduce condensation risk.

Swing Operation

Press SWING to automatically move the vertical airflow louvers up and down.

  • During COOL / DRY mode, swing operates between positions 1 and 4.
  • Swing may pause when the fan is stopped or operating at very low speed.

Economy Operation

Press ECONOMY to reduce power consumption.

  • Maximum output is approximately 70% of normal cooling operation.
  • The room temperature will be slightly higher than the selected set temperature during cooling.
  • ECONOMY will not activate during the Monitor period in AUTO mode.

Manual Auto Operation

Use MANUAL AUTO if the wireless remote controller is lost or unavailable.

  • Press and hold MANUAL AUTO for more than 3 seconds and less than 10 seconds to start AUTO operation.
  • Fan speed is set to AUTO.
  • Temperature setting is approximately 24°C.
  • To stop, press MANUAL AUTO for approximately 3 seconds.
  • Holding MANUAL AUTO for more than 10 seconds starts Forced Cooling for service purposes.

Operating Range

COOL / DRY indoor temperatureApproximately 18-32°C
Indoor humidityBelow approximately 80%

Auto Restart After Power Failure

If power is interrupted, the air conditioner automatically restarts in the previous operating mode once power is restored.

If power is interrupted during timer operation, the timer will reset and the TIMER indicator may flash. Reset the timer as required.

Cleaning and Care

Before cleaning: Stop the indoor unit and disconnect the power supply.
  • Clean the standard air filters approximately every 2 weeks under normal use.
  • Remove dust with a vacuum cleaner or wash the filters using neutral detergent and warm water.
  • Allow filters to dry thoroughly in a shaded location before reinstalling.
  • Do not use water hotter than 40°C, abrasive cleaners, benzene or thinner.
  • If the unit will be unused for 1 month or more, operate FAN mode for approximately half a day before shutdown to dry internal components.

Air Cleaning Filters

FilterPart NumberMaintenance
Polyphenol Catechin Air Cleaning FilterUTR-FA16Disposable; replace approximately every 3 months
Negative Air Ions Deodorizing FilterUTR-FA16-2Clean approximately every 3 months; replace approximately every 3 years

Filter Indicator Reset

Where the optional filter indicator function has been enabled during installation, clean the filters and then press the indoor unit MANUAL AUTO button for 2 seconds or less to reset the indicator.

Normal Operating Characteristics

The following may occur during normal operation and do not necessarily indicate a fault:

  • Approximately 3-minute compressor delay after restarting or restoring power.
  • Refrigerant-flow sounds during operation or shortly after stopping.
  • Slight squeaking caused by expansion and contraction of the front panel.
  • Odours previously absorbed from the room may be emitted from the indoor unit.
  • A light mist may be visible during COOL or DRY operation.
  • Low or intermittent airflow during DRY mode.
  • Very low airflow during SUPER QUIET operation.
  • Very low fan speed during Monitor operation in AUTO mode.

Troubleshooting

Unit Does Not Operate

  • Check whether the circuit breaker is ON.
  • Check for a power failure.
  • Check whether a fuse has blown or circuit breaker has tripped.
  • Check whether the timer is controlling operation.

Poor Cooling Performance

  • Check whether the air filter is dirty.
  • Check whether the intake grille or outlet is blocked.
  • Confirm the thermostat setting is appropriate.
  • Check whether windows or doors are open.
  • Check for strong direct sunlight.
  • Check for high internal heat loads or excessive room occupancy.
  • Check whether SUPER QUIET operation is selected.

Remote Controller Does Not Operate Correctly

  • Check whether the remote-controller batteries are flat.
  • Confirm the batteries are installed with the correct polarity.
Stop operation and isolate power immediately if there is a burning smell or other abnormal condition. If the OPERATION and TIMER indicators flash and the ECONOMY indicator flashes rapidly, contact authorised service personnel.
