Dry-contact ON/OFF input and operation-status output

The UTY-XWZX is an external connect kit that allows a compatible indoor unit to receive an external ON/OFF command and provide an external operation-status output.
Compatibility must be confirmed: The kit does not suit every General or Fujitsu General indoor unit. Confirm the exact indoor-unit model and the applicable installation manual before connection.

2. External control input
The external input provides remote ON/OFF control of the air conditioner using a field-supplied voltage-free contact.

When started by external input, the air conditioner resumes the operating settings that were active before it stopped. Use the normal remote controller to change mode, temperature or fan speed.
External input operating logic

Maintained-contact operation: The Orange and Yellow wires must be continuously shorted for ON and continuously open for OFF. A brief pulse will not provide reliable control unless the external device uses a latching relay to maintain the required contact state.

Never connect mains voltage, 24 V AC, 24 V DC or any other powered signal directly to the Orange and Yellow wires. The input circuit supplies its own DC 12 V sensing voltage and requires only an isolated dry contact.
Interaction with the normal remote controller
- The external input controls only whether the unit is commanded ON or OFF.
- The normal remote controller remains necessary to select cooling, heating, dry or fan mode.
- The normal remote controller is also required to set temperature, fan speed, louvre position and timer functions.
- When the external contact starts the unit, it resumes the operating settings stored before the previous stop.
- Where a site requires the external device to have overriding control, users should be advised that opening the maintained contact will stop the unit.

3. External operation-status output
The external output changes state to indicate whether the indoor unit is operating or stopped.

Output limitation: This kit provides only an operation/stop indication. It does not provide operating mode, set temperature, airflow or detailed fault-code information.

4. Installation procedure
| 1 | Isolate all power. Confirm the indoor and outdoor units are electrically isolated before opening covers or connecting the kit. |
| 2 | Confirm compatibility and connector location. Use the indoor-unit installation manual to identify the correct PCB connector and wiring route. |
| 3 | Connect the required accessory lead. Use Orange/Yellow for input and Blue/Purple for output. |
| 4 | Route and secure the wiring. Install the binder clamp and binder so the wiring cannot contact moving parts, sharp edges or high-voltage components. |
| 5 | Connect the field-supplied device. If the lead must be extended, use suitable cable and fully insulate the joint. |
| 6 | Reassemble and test. Restore power and verify external ON/OFF control and operation-status output. |
Do not apply external voltage to the Orange/Yellow input. It is designed for a voltage-free contact only. Applying voltage can damage the indoor control board.

6. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Checks |

| External input does not start the unit | Confirm compatibility, PCB connector seating, Orange/Yellow continuity, dry-contact operation and that no external voltage is present. |
| Unit starts but uses the wrong mode or temperature | The kit recalls the previous operating settings. Change mode and setpoint using the normal remote controller. |
| Output does not change state | Confirm Blue/Purple wiring, field-device supply, contact loading and whether the indoor unit is actually in operation rather than standby. |
| Field relay or indicator is unstable | Confirm the device is within the DC 24 V, 10 mA to 1 A rating and add a suitable interface relay where required. |

- Indoor-unit serial number
- Required function: ON/OFF input, status output or both
- External device type and its electrical contact specification
- Whether a wired controller, Wi-Fi adaptor or other optional PCB is already installed
- Photo of the indoor PCB and available accessory connector
