J Series VRF Setup - Automatic Addressing, Connection Check and Master Indoor Unit Setting

This article provides the setup steps shown in the J Series commissioning guide for the outdoor unit PCB, VRF automatic addressing, side-discharge VRF connection checking, and administrative / master indoor unit setting.

Before Starting
  • Confirm the outdoor unit has stopped operating before switching power off.
  • Remove the outdoor unit front panel and electrical component box cover to access the outdoor PCB.
  • Power the outdoor unit back on for commissioning.
  • Make sure all indoor units are powered but switched OFF at the controller.

Outdoor Unit PCB Controls

The outdoor PCB uses the following controls and indicators during setup:

  • POWER/MODE indicator - LED101
  • ERROR indicator - LED102
  • 7-segment displays - LED105 and LED104
  • MODE/EXIT push button
  • SELECT push button
  • ENTER push button
  • DIP switches and rotary switches for other setup functions

Initial Power Check

  1. Turn on power to the outdoor unit.
  2. Confirm the POWER/MODE indicator LED101 is ON.
  3. Confirm the ERROR indicator LED102 is OFF.
If LED102 is flashing: An error has occurred. Check the wiring and power supply. Only continue once the ERROR indicator has turned off.

VRF Automatic Addressing

Use the following sequence to carry out automatic addressing.

  1. Confirm all indoor units are powered but switched off at the controller.
  2. Press MODE/EXIT once.
  3. Press SELECT twice until function group F3 is displayed.
  4. Press ENTER once.
  5. Press SELECT until 11 is displayed.
  6. Press and hold ENTER for 3 seconds.
  7. The display will show the automatic addressing process running.
  8. Allow up to approximately 10 minutes for the process to complete.

When addressing is complete, the display will indicate the number of indoor units found and any indoor units in error.

  • LED105: Number of indoor units found / fault-free.
  • LED104: Number of indoor units with an error.

Press ENTER once to complete the addressing sequence. After pressing ENTER, the display may blink for approximately 30 seconds.

If PA / LL or a similar unsuccessful result is shown: Confirm all indoor units are powered, switched off at the controller, and then repeat the automatic addressing procedure.

Side-Discharge VRF Connection Check

The following procedure applies to the side-discharge VRF connection check.

  1. Confirm all indoor units are powered but switched off at the controller.
  2. Press MODE/EXIT once.
  3. Press SELECT twice until F3 is displayed.
  4. Press ENTER once.
  5. Press SELECT until 12 is displayed.
  6. Press ENTER once to begin the connection check.

During the connection check, the outdoor PCB will assess the connected indoor units and control boxes.

If the check completes normally, the display will show the number of connected units found.

Example shown in the source: A display value of 01 represents one indoor control box connected.

If an error is displayed, record the code before continuing diagnosis.

To exit the connection-check function, press MODE/EXIT twice.

Administrative / Master Indoor Unit Setting

The source also shows the procedure for setting the connected indoor unit as the Master Indoor Unit using the wired remote controller.

  1. From page 2 of the Initial Setting menu, select Master Indoor Unit Setting.
  2. Enter the installer password. The factory password shown is 0000. If the password has previously been changed, enter the current password and press OK.
  3. The Master Indoor Unit Setting screen should show Not Master Indoor Unit. Press Set.
  4. When prompted to confirm that the connected indoor unit will be set as the master indoor unit, press Yes.

Commissioning Checklist

  1. Confirm LED101 is ON and LED102 is OFF.
  2. Confirm all indoor units are powered and switched off at their controllers.
  3. Run automatic addressing using F3 / function 11.
  4. Confirm the number of indoor units found matches the installed system.
  5. For side-discharge systems, run the connection check using F3 / function 12.
  6. Resolve any connection or indoor-unit error count before proceeding.
  7. Where required, set the applicable indoor unit as the Master Indoor Unit from the wired controller.
