V-Series Outdoor Unit - New Functions, Error Displays & Software Mismatch

Service Bulletin VRF-0087-02 - issued 27 April 2010
This bulletin introduced new outdoor-unit software functions and error displays for VRF V-series outdoor units, including network communication behaviour and software-version mismatch indication.

Quick Answer

ProductVRF outdoor unit - V series
ModelsAll applicable VRF-V series listed below
New functionDIP-SW7-2 changes system response to network communication errors on the master outdoor unit
Reset functionDIP-SW6-4 resets the stored maximum indoor-unit count
Indoor-unit shortage errorCode 14.5 - LED1 high-speed flash + LED6 3 flashes
Network communication errorLED1 high-speed flash + LED5 9 flashes

DIP-SW7-2 - Network Communication Error Operation

This setting applies to the master outdoor unit only.

SettingSystem Behaviour
OFFIf the number of communicating indoor units decreases from the quantity detected at power ON, Indoor unit shortage error is displayed and the system stops.

If communication is lost with an indoor unit during normal operation, Network communication error is displayed and the system stops.
ONIf the number of communicating indoor units decreases from the quantity detected at power ON, Indoor unit shortage error is displayed but the system does not stop.

If communication with all indoor units is lost during normal operation, Network communication error is displayed and the system stops.
Important: The bulletin instructs that DIP-SW7-2 should be set to OFF. Continuing to operate with this switch ON may create a risk of compressor failure.

DIP-SW6-4 - Maximum Indoor Unit Count Reset

DIP-SW6-4 resets the stored value for the maximum number of indoor units.

Reset actionChange DIP-SW6-4 from OFF to ON
Normal positionAfter reset, return DIP-SW6-4 to OFF

New Error Displays

These displays apply from software version E01BV11L11 and later.

The serial number shown is the product serial corresponding to shipment from the factory. Units rewritten with software E01BV11L11 after shipment are also included.

Outdoor Unit Software Mismatch

When 2 or 3 outdoor units are connected in one refrigerant system, all outdoor units must be rewritten to the latest software version.

Important: Rewriting to the latest software is treated the same as replacing the PCB with one already programmed with the latest version.

If different software versions are present within the same refrigerant system, an outdoor-unit software mismatch indication can occur.

Service Action for Software Mismatch

  1. Confirm the software version of every outdoor unit connected to the refrigerant system.
  2. Identify whether different software versions or categories are present.
  3. Rewrite the outdoor unit(s) that do not have the latest software.
  4. Ensure all outdoor units in the same refrigerant system are on the latest software version.
  5. Confirm the mismatch error indication has cleared.
Diagnostic note: LED1 high-speed flash + LED5 12 flashes clears when the outdoor-unit software mismatch is corrected. The bulletin notes that this LED5 12-flash mismatch indication does not occur where all units are already on the latest software.

If the connected outdoor units are all within the same software-version category, the software mismatch error may not occur even if the exact software revisions differ. The bulletin still instructs technicians to update all outdoor units to the latest software.

Important: When updating a multi-outdoor-unit VRF system, do not update only one outdoor unit. Confirm and align the software revision across all outdoor units connected to the same refrigerant system.
